Corrosion and Chemistry Division

The Corrosion and Chemistry Division covers all stages of the construction and use of metal and concrete structures in terms of corrosion protection (bridges, viaducts, electricity towers, steel structures and industrial plant equipment), from the design of corrosion protection and the technology for their implementation and supervision of their execution, through detailed inspections, expert reports and technical condition assessments of corrosion protection. The laboratory conducts research into the chemical composition of polymeric and mineral materials.

In the Corrosion and Chemistry Division research is carried out on anti-corrosion, insulation and repair materials for engineering, civil engineering and other industrial applications made from steel, other metals and concrete. The Corrosion and Chemistry Division deals with corrosion processes affecting all industries. Tests are carried out for certification purposes such as National Technical Assessments, PSE [Polish Power Networks] and Railway Recommendations, in accordance with the NORSOK procedure and others.

The Corrosion and Chemistry Division conducts field tests, including: tests on the condition of corrosion protection, adhesion of coatings, the condition of substrate preparation and sampling for further laboratory tests. The Corrosion and Chemistry Division has inspectors with IBDiM, FROSIO and AMPP qualifications. A detailed list of the research carried out is described in the laboratory activities section.

The Corrosion and Chemistry Division drafts technical and design regulations, including guidelines recommended by the Minister of Infrastructure.

The Corrosion and Chemistry Division organizes courses and trainings in corrosion protection and repair of bridges.

The activities of the Corrosion and Chemistry Division include:

Training in corrosion, surface preparation before coating application, training in anti-corrosion standards, inspector training

We have been providing training in corrosion and corrosion protection for more than 20 years.
Every year we organise:

  • 3-level course entitled “Design and supervision of corrosion protection on steel structures” – Each level of the course lasts 5 days and ends with an examination and, upon successful assessment, the issue of a certificate. On completion of a series of courses, a cumulative Certificate is issued with a 5-year validity period
  • 2-level course entitled “Design and supervision of corrosion protection on concrete structures” – Each level of the course lasts 5 days and ends with an examination and, upon successful assessment, the issue of a certificate. On completion of a series of courses, a cumulative Certificate is issued with a 5-year validity period
  • a course extending the validity of Certificates obtained after the aforementioned trainings – the course extends the validity of the Certificates for a further 5 years.
In addition, we also organise thematic seminars and workshops and provide individual training tailored to the needs of our customers, e.g. training in surface preparation prior to the application of coatings or training in the correct selection of technology and application of coatings, practical training in the use of inspection instruments and training in standards, e.g. PN-EN ISO 12944 (ISO 12944) or PN-EN ISO 8501 (ISO 8501) or PN-EN ISO 8502 (ISO 8502).
